What is bioeconomy?

Bioeconomy signifies the use of natural substances in a considerate and efficient manner, based on the latest scientific findings. It encompasses the production of biobased resources and their conversion into food, feed, bioenergy and biobased materials. Technology, ecology and sustainable economy are combined in the primary production of of biobased resources and in their conversion to higher-value goods on the market to open new forward-looking opportunities for economic activities. 

AlpBioEco and bioeconomy

Bioeconomy is an economy that makes sustainable use of biological resources and knowledge about biological systems for processes, products and services across all fields of application and economic sectors. Using apple, walnut and herb-based products as examples, the AlpBioEco project shows how the bioeconomic potential in the Alpine region can be realised in various bio-based value chains. Also, the results of the project can be transferred to other value chains and to other regions.
